February 2010

Status updates enabled...my updates page is now created.

Good evening, everyone. I've been hard at work playing with modules, and I have added functionality to the site. Through the My Updates page, as well as through your profile, you can update your status. Through the updates page, you can also comment on status updates from others and view any updates to the groups you're a part of. In addition, the newest forum and blog posts will be viewable from this location.

I'll do my best to keep the page fresh and up to date. Thank you for checking in, and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Groups enabled

At the behest of Kelly Cheney I have enabled group functionality; contributors can now create groups to be public, private, invitation only, request to join, or closed. These groups may, in turn, have private blogs, forums and stories posted to them.

The Drupal module called OG, (organic groups,) works very nicely once the wacky admin privileges are fixed, and while I've only created a single group, the framework seems to work nicely. Please feel free to test the functionality, and if you need something tweaked just let me know.

KHOI Volunteers

This is a group where we'll post messages to all volunteers of KHOI radio.

Website Updates

All updates to the website will be linked through this page.

Site is now active!

Greetings, everyone! It's time for one more big thank you to Tony, who has done all the work to set our new site as www.khoi-fm.org.

I'll be doing my best to get all of our volunteers signed up by the end of the week, start accumulating the text-based content, and then start promoting our page to the community.

As a reminder, you can join our page NOW to use the blogs and forums. We'll be setting up audio as soon as possible.

Figuring out Drupal

I started with a long list of reservations by beginning the website with such an expansive pre-made structure like Drupal.

In most instances, I was wrong. Let's be honest, nobody wants to reinvent the wheel. Or the forums, blogs, radio broadcasting functionality, and so on of a modern radiostation website. Drupal is open source, which is amazing: it's a community-based project, which fits well with my understanding of the station's ideology. Also, it's free.

Forum rules

We attempt to keep forum rules short and reasonable. We reserve the right to delete content that violates any of the following guidelines, and repeated offenders will lose their forum privileges.

-------
Be respectful of other members
(Feel free to disagree, but discuss the issues, not the person.)

Discriminatory language will not be tolerated
(NO hatespeak, be it racism, sexism, slander, or any other.)

No for-profit business advertisements
(If you'd like to advertise locally, please contact us using the contact page.)

Site development

Greetings, everyone. It's February 1st, and I'm a bit late on having our website and content up. Apologies are in order all around.

Please bear with me, as this site will be under constant construction for quite some time. With that said, you can create accounts, and I'll be getting forums and blogs enabled soon!
